Top 10 Things to Do in the Mountains This Holiday Season!

  1. The North Carolina Arboretum becomes a winter wonderland starting November 17th!  Winter Lights will be open from November 17th through December 31st from 6 to 10 p.m. nightly with a magnificent display of a half million lights! Buy your tickets in advance for this event. 
  2. Our quaint mountain town of Waynesville is beginning to look a lot like Christmas! The decorations are going up along Main Street and the shops are preparing for holiday shoppers! Waynesville Holly Days will start on Friday December 1st with the lighting of the town tree at 5:30 p.m. then a stroll on Main Street for Art After Dark. The fun will continue with seasonal events through the weekend and then the annual Main Street Christmas Parade on Monday December 4th at 6:00 p.m.
  3. If you love Blue Grass music the Balsam Range Art of Music Festival is a must this season! There will be concerts with nationally known artists on Friday and Saturday December 1st and 2nd! 
  4. Enjoy a true old fashioned Christmas tradition at Waynesville’s “A Night Before Christmas” celebration on December 9th from 6 to 9 p.m.  Luminaries line the street for this beautiful evening of live music, caroling, a Bethlehem Market Place, an incredible Live Nativity, old-fashioned wagon rides, and of course Santa.  The Main Street shops, galleries & restaurants will remain open all evening. 
  5. Lake Junaluska will celebrate and Appalachian Christmas December 7th to 10th! This three day event will feature a performance of “Handel’s Messiah”, an Appalachian Craft Show, and other live Appalachian Christmas concerts all weekend long!  
  6. Waynesville celebrates “Twelve Days Of Christmas” from December 13th to the 24th!  Make “magical moments and memories” strolling and shopping in our historic mountain town!
  7. On Saturday December 16th at 10:00 a.m.,  Waynesville’s Historic Greenhill Cemetary will join Arlington National Cemetary as well as 1200 other locations across the United States for “Wreaths Across America”.  Don’t miss this this very special annual wreath laying ceremony to “Remember our U.S. fallen veterans,  Honor those who serve, and Teach your children the value of freedom.” 
  8. The Biltmore Estate has decked the halls for visitors to enjoy the sights and sounds of Christmas!  A day or evening at Christmas at the Biltmore will be filled with music, trees, garland, lights and warm hearths! Purchase tickets in advance.
  9. Take home a fresh cut tree from the mountains! There is no better place to find the perfect tree this season! 
  10.
