Fall in the North Carolina mountains is a very special time, and there are plenty of seasonal delights to enjoy. Stay at Oak Hill on Love Lane Bed and Breakfast this fall and get acquainted with Waynesville’s autumnal traditions and spectacles. Here’s a round up of some of our favorite fall traditions and activities!
Art + Live Music + Tours
If you happen to be staying at the inn during the first Friday of every month, we highly encourage you to head downtown for Art After Dark from 6-9PM. Participating galleries host artist demonstrations, shows, live music, and offer refreshments. It’s a great way to experience the wealth of talent here in Western North Carolina.
If the timing isn’t right for Art After Dark, you can still enjoy strolling the many galleries on Main Street in Waynesville any day of the week.
For stellar live music, our favorite venues are The Wine Seller, The Gem Bar at Boojum Brewing, Frog Level Brewing and Mad Anthony’s Bar & Tap Room. There are lively shows at all of these places nearly every weekend!
The fall season brings interesting and fun tour opportunities to the mountains, and most of these tours are being offered everyday of the week, so if you’re a weekday traveler, there is still plenty to keep you busy! Some of our favorites are Elk Tours and History Haunts and Legends of Haywood County. We also highly recommend themed tours focused on local paranormal activities, the craft beer scene, wineries, and orchards, offered through our stellar tour partners, Leap Frog Tours and Cataloochee Valley Tours.
Outdoor Activities and Natural Attractions
You don’t have to venture very far at all to admire a crisp, starry night. The fire pit in the garden at Oak Hill at Love Lane was voted by bedandbreakfast.com as one of the top 10 fire pits in the country! One of our guests’ favorite things to do is gather round the fire to warm up in the evening and catch up with other inn guests on all of their adventures.
If you’d like to go further afield, the possibilities are endless. We recommend a walk around Lake Junaluska, a stroll downtown, or a stop at Barber’s Apple Orchard stand for some amazing fresh NC apples and, of course, the best apple cider donuts in the land! The iconic Blue Ridge Parkway is a short 7 mile drive from the inn. People come from all over the world to marvel at the gorgeous fall foliage in the mountains along the parkway. Venture out for a drive, hike, or bike ride!
If you’d like to experience the excitement and fun of our public street fairs, October is a great time to visit Waynesville! You can choose from the Church St. Art & Craft Show on October 12 and 13, featuring some of the region’s finest artwork, or Apple Harvest Festival the following weekend on October 19 and 20, celebrating apples with homemade pie, cider, and jam! Both of the festivals are here in downtown Waynesville, and are a short stroll from the inn.
Looking Forward to the Christmas Holiday Season
Fall of course gives way to winter, and our part of the world knows exactly how to celebrate the holiday festivities. Plan to enjoy the Christmas Festival in Waynesville, the Old Fashioned Dickens of Christmas Festival in Biltmore Village, a quaint section of Asheville, and the stunningly elegant holiday decor at the Biltmore. Just like the fall, winter is a uniquely beautiful time in Western North Carolina.
We look forward to welcoming you at Oak Hill on Love Lane as the temperatures drop and we begin to celebrate holidays and traditions, and marvel at the beautiful natural elements. One of our greatest joys is steering our guests to timely events and hidden gems sprinkled throughout the region!
