Cultural crash courses allow guests to uncover more of Asheville’s diversity through dialogue from Western Carolina University’s distinguished experts. Dive deeper with one of these knowledgable lectures.
Southern Supper Series
Join author Chris Cox as he hosts a dinner and lecture series featuring other Western North Carolina authors. Along with the readings and talks, there will be musical performances, art displays, and group discussions.
Designed with all ages in mind, Camp Folkmoot allows dancers of all abilities to join in on the traditional dances. Learn something new with step-by-step lessons of the dances of the festival.
The Folkmoot festival occurs each year from the third week of July to the last Sunday of the month. Performers from around the globe are invited to showcase their artistic talent via dance, song, or interpretive art form. The line-up boasts over 200 performers and includes everything from traditional Romanian Hora to Hungarian folk dance to Colombian merengue.
The festival kicks off with a multicultural Parade of Nations celebrating all of the various performers. International Day takes place on the streets of Downtown Waynesville and provides three main stages for performances, an extensive craft fair full of international treasures, and a variety of food vendors. Event tickets go on sale in May and can be purchased through the Folkmoot website.
